V5C - vehicle registration document
The V5C is the current vehicle registration document, it replaced the V5 and it brings us into line with EU standards, also known as a "log book".
The V5C is issued when the vehicle is first registered and it contains data such as vehicle VIN number, Engine number, vehicle colour and type as well as registered keepers name and address.
The importance of the V5C has increased in recent years as the DVLA attempts to clamp down on vehicle crime and these days the V5C is required for many vehicle transactions.
The V5C is extremely important when considering private number plates and transfers or registration numbers. It is not possible to carry out transfers and assignments of car registrations without the whole V5C.
Sometimes just one portion of the V5C being missing can be enough to cancel a transfer of a registration number.
It should be noted that when assigning personalised number plates held on a certificate ( V778 or V750 ) that the name of the registered keeper printed on the V5C and the "nominee" printed on the certificate MUST be identical.
If you have any questions regarding any of the above , please contact us by email or telephone.
